Joining KG Communications as Chief Engineer and Technology Officer, Darin Alvord brings a career of award-winning engineering innovation to the business. Mr. Alvord began his career in telecommunications as a television engineer. He soon saw that business telecommunications was the place to be and in 1983 entered the industry. In the past 30 years, he has designed, deployed, operated and maintained 11 wide-area digital wireless communication networks. In 1994 he was awarded the International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE) “Engineering Innovator of the Year” award for his work in the development of the FastNet mobile communications wireless network. Between 2003 and 2007 Mr. Alvord worked in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security and its communications group, Safecom, to embrace the concept of Interoperability for the nation’s First Responders. His concept of a “Foundational Supportive Open Architecture Network” is now the cornerstone of the proposed FirstNet wireless network for Interoperation. This technology is planned to produce a LTE-based, nation-wide wireless telecommunication network that all First-Responders will be able to access with simultaneous voice and data service to manage or combat any threat or incident, with local, state and federal agencies working in concert and with common wireless contact. A published author and cited authority on electromagnetic wave propagation and antenna design, Mr. Alvord has been responsible for many innovations in RF site design and new concepts in system implementation. Possessing a Federal Communications Commission General Class engineering certification, Mr. Alvord brings a unique set of experiences in engineering and design acumen to KG Communications.
